HINGHAM HIGH CREW

About Hingham High Crew
Hingham High School Crew is a distinguished force in New England rowing, competing in prestigious regattas across the region, including the world-renowned Head of the Charles. In Fall 2024, both the girls' and boys' teams achieved the highest honor—winning the Massachusetts State Championship. The program has also secured a place in the Guinness Book of World Records and set four world records, all while fostering a highly competitive yet welcoming environment for Hingham High School student-athletes.

With over 115 athletes, rowing is the second-largest sport at HHS. As a three-season program for both girls and boys, it provides a rare and inclusive opportunity—no cuts are made, and scholarships are available for students with demonstrated financial need.

Hingham High School is one of only 19 public schools in Massachusetts —less than 4% of all public high schools— to offer a rowing program making it a privilege to provide this unique athletic experience to our student-athletes. Competing at the highest levels, HHS Crew races in the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association (MPSRA) and New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) championship regattas, among others. Each spring, the team also hosts its own regatta, the "Salty Bow Sprints," in Hingham Harbor.

Training is rigorous and well-supported, with on-the-water practices in Hingham Harbor five days a week, complemented by land training at Mass MVMT, Krigsman Yoga, Cycle Town, and on ergometers at the historic Lighting Plant on Cushing Street.

The strength of the program extends beyond high school—HHS Crew alumni have gone on to row and attend more than 55 top ranked public and private colleges and universities across the U.S. and Europe, a testament to both their academic and athletic excellence.

HHS Crew is more than a team—it’s a tradition of excellence, camaraderie, and achievement.
About HHSRA
Founded in 2006, the Hingham High School Rowing Association (HHSRA) is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and a proud member of U.S. Rowing. HHSRA has grown from a small group of rowers, parents, and coaches into one of the most successful and popular athletic programs at Hingham High School, serving over 115 student-athletes each year.

HHSRA’s mission is twofold: to make rowing accessible to all Hingham High School students and provide opportunities for them to compete at the highest levels. The association is fully operated by elected board members and relies on student dues, fundraising, corporate donations, and parent volunteers to sustain its operations.

HHSRA employs a Program Director, eight experienced coaches and maintains a fleet of rowing shells, launches, ergs, and other equipment, ensuring top-tier training and competitive opportunities. The program emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while also supporting academic success.
Beyond victories, the program’s success is measured in the personal growth of its athletes. HHSRA fosters dedication and teamwork, helping students excel both in the classroom and in securing spots at leading universities.

The association benefits from strong support from Hingham Public Schools, skilled coaches, and a dedicated community. However, it relies on local businesses, families, and friends to fund equipment, scholarships, and the program’s continued growth.

Join our Board!
The rowing team is the second largest athletic team at HHS and we continue to excel and expand! As the parent of a rower, you are also a member of the non-profit organization, HHSRA. Every year as students graduate, critical positions open up, so we need your help. Just like our athletes, our parents bring a wealth of knowledge and a specific skill set to our program, and your support is integral to our success.

As a board member, you are committed to the HHSRA's mission, hold respect for the work of our coaches and students, and commitment to ensuring our program is effective and inclusive. We approach leadership with the skills and values instilled through rowing – discipline, tenacity, and teamwork – to ensure our program continues to provide the very best opportunities for all.

Our Partners
We are deeply grateful to the following establishments for their dedicated commitment to the success of our athletes.
Their continued support has been instrumental in shaping Hingham High Crew into the program it is today.

Hingham Maritime Center (HMC) graciously provides our student-athletes the opportunity to row on Hingham Harbor during the Fall and Spring racing seasons. Many Hingham Crew athletes start their rowing journey at HMC and continue to train here throughout the summer, refining their skills and fostering a passion for the sport. This ongoing collaboration between HMC and HHSRA helps to cultivate a strong, supportive rowing community in Hingham, empowering the next generation of rowers.
At Mass MVMNT,
Hingham Crew trains for strength, conditioning, and longevity in the sport. From bodyweight to barbells, the team works to be the best athletes they can be on and off the water through purposeful training in all aspects of fitness.
Krigsman helps the crew team with proper alignment, body awareness, and flexibility, which supports muscle groups to be more explosive. Mindfulness around breath is consistently used to improve both endurance and focus. These tools support the athletes to tap into their full potential.
What better way to stay in sync on the water than to ride to the beat of the music as a team at Cycle Town? Under the blue lights, enveloped by music, Cycle Town's instructors endeavor to help our athletes to not only improve their physical fitness, but also enhance mental resilience and confidence, all while having fun!
WE'RE HIRING!

We're excited to be expanding our coaching staff to support our growing team of 100+ athletes. Coming off a state championship win, we're looking for dedicated coaches to help sustain our success and continue building a strong, competitive program.
