HINGHAM HIGH CREW
MARIKA KOPP, GIRLS' HEAD COACH
Marika Kopp has over ten years of rowing experience and three years of coaching experience at the junior and collegiate level, and is excited to bring her passion for the sport of rowing to the Women's Crew here at Hingham High!
Kopp, a four-year letter winner with the Minutewomen, was twice an Atlantic 10 All-Conference performer (2014, 2015) and on the water for two Atlantic 10 Championships and NCAA Championship appearances. She competed in the Varsity 8+ throughout her collegiate career, also helping capture the Dad Vail Regatta’s Evelyn Bergman Trophy in 2015.
She entered the coaching world in November 2015, embarking as an Assistant Coach with Amherst Elite Scullers. She led a small group of talented junior scullers through a competitive and challenging program where they raced quads, doubles, and singles.
Kopp returned to her alma mater in Fall 2018 as an assistant coach with the UMass rowing program. The team had a successful spring racing season with two first place finishes at the Knecht Cup and a number of grand final appearances at the Dad Vail Regatta.
As a racer herself, Kopp continues to train in the single, having received an invite to the Arion Elite Rowing Program in Saratoga, NY this past summer.
Outside of coaching, she has served a number of city planning capacities, most recently in Menlo Park, California.
The native of Baldwinsville, New York captained the Minutewomen as a senior in 2014-15, the same year that she earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental design. She later added a master’s degree from UMass in community and regional planning.
Mr. Jim Dietz, renowned Head Coach of the UMASS Women's Team who brought them to a record 16 Atlantic 10 Championships states "Marika was the "top of the House at UMASS, our highest award!" I know that she will continue to excel in everything she endeavors. She is a leader who knows what it takes to lead."
